Update 7th October 2023 and what is somewhere in time?

Hi all,

About Me

This is just a quick devlog to introduce myself and the game.

I'm a hobby indie developer who's been using Unity for around 10 years but programming for a lot longer than that.

Not professionally but more for my own amusement.

I've released a couple of small mobile games in the past but for now I'm concentrating on Somewhere in time.

I plan to release the game on steam initially and see where it goes from there.

I'm enjoying working on the game and I hope people who play the game enjoy it too.

The Game

Somewhere in time is an old school arena shooter along the lines of Unreal Tournament and Quake III

In the finished game, Players will battle it out in death match, team death match, capture the flag, king of the hill and more across a variety of maps.

Single player and multiplayer will both be supported.

The game currently features death match only on one map which is just a map I grey boxed out in Blender one evening.

This map is just for testing really and it probably won't make in into the final game.

I've been working on the game for about 3 weeks now in my spare time and I'm happy with the progress I've made so far.

Roadmap

The next thing I want to add is another map for variety. The one in the game is quite small and although it has plenty of choke points there is no verticality and with more than 5 bots it can be a little bit cramped.

After that I'll make a start on multiplayer.

It's important to get an early start on this rather than try to implement multiplayer into a single player game because of the complexity of multiplayer games.

Multiplayer games really need to be designed as such. Tacking it on as an afterthought is too difficult to attempt.

I'll also be adding new game modes, weapons, enemies and maps constantly.

Thanks for reading, if you have any questions or comments I would welcome them.
