Updated 15th October 2023

Somewhere in time is a prototype FPS game.

It has 5 enemies type, 4 weapons, 1 map and 1 game type.

I'm uploading it here to get early feedback about how the game plays, is it fun? is it too difficult or too easy?

Please use the comments to supply any feedback you wish to.

Controls:

WASD to move, mouse to look and shoot.

ctrl to crouch

left shift to sprint.

Q to switch weapons.

TAB to toggle score board.

Escape to bring up the pause menu.

Known bugs/issues/unfinished bits.

Too numerous to count but here are some of the highlights...

weapons clip through walls,

some projectiles are not destroyed at the right time.

some colliders missing from the map, You can escape the map etc etc.

Loads of others.

I'M NOT INTERESTED IN BUG REPORTS AT THE MOMENT, I want to use your feedback as a tool to find out how far away I am from 'Finding the fun.'

The bots can move all over the map and follow and attack each other/the player.

Sometimes enemy bots spawn really close to the player, no distance checks are performed before a spawn point is chosen so sometimes by chance the player is standing near the chosen spawn point.

Score board doesn't sort to place the player with the highest kills at the top, it's unfinished.

Most of the menu is placeholders for things to come.

Notes on AI

They will see you and other bots, chase you down and attack you.

If you give them the slip they will chase you for a few seconds then search the area for you unless they see another bot or are low on health.

They traverse the map through a network of waypoints (unfinished)

If they are low on health, they will search for a health pickup.

If they are really low on health while they are attacking, they might try to break contact to go and heal.

At the moment, this is as basic as you can get.

A simple finite state machine with 5 behaviours. patrol, attack, chase, search, search for health pickup.

The bot will move to a waypoint then select another at random rather than following a set path.

Proper pathing will be introduced as soon as I've written the tools to easily place waypoints on the map as it's a very labour intensive process at the moment to link the previous and possible next waypoints together.

Weapons.

There are 4.

The bots can use them all.

Handgun,

Shotgun,

Railgun,

Rocket Launcher.
